In 2024 I was very fortunate to find a GI doctor in Atlanta who specialized in second opinions and who was an expert addressing overlooked conditions. During my first consult, she surmised that I likely had pancreatic enzyme insufficiency and was excited to recommend BoulderBio, which had just hit the market a few months earlier in Jan 2024. She had a whole jar full of prescription digestive enzymes on her desk to show me… she explained that not only were they ridiculously expensive, made from the pancreases of pigs (which some people couldn’t take), very large in size (making them hard for some to swallow) and, worse, typically inclusive of fillers and other unnecessary ingredients used in manufacture. By my doc’s calculations, one BoulderBio capsule equals about 5% of what the pancreas produces naturally so supplementing with 2 capsules, she said, is about like adding 10% function. After experimenting, I found that 4 capsules per meal is my best dose and I know I can add more when needed.
